Genealogy of Zoura Melvin Baum
Peter Baum (will be noted as Peter1) is my earliest ancestor that I have proven to date. According to other genealogy reports, he was born 11 Jun 1767 and died 8 Feb 1838. It's possible that he was born in Germany, but I haven't proven that yet. He probably had three sons, John, Jacob and David, which John is the only one proven at this time. He also probably had two daughters, names unknown.
John Baum (b. 1801) had at least two sons, Peter (will be noted as Peter2) and Jacob (will be noted as Jacob2). It's possible that he had at least one more son, older than Peter. He had at least two daughters, Elizabeth and Hannah.
According to Peter2's death certificate, John was born in Lancaster county. I find this possibly inaccurate, since Peter1 shows up in the 1800 Census in Westmoreland county.
I'm
not positive where Peter1 came from, the first records of him shows up
in the 1800 Census in Hempfield township, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania.
It appears that after his death, John, Jacob and David moved to Armstrong
county, Pine Township.
In
the 1790 census, there was only two Baum's recorded in Westmoreland county.
There was a Christian Balm Sr and a Christian Balm Jr, Hempfield township.
Most likely, Christian Sr was Peter1's father. I don't have any proof
of this yet, but this is most logical.
Check
out this map: J.Baum's
of Pine Township. Notice that there are three J.Baum's on this
map. There was a Jacob, John and Joseph living here at this time.
Which is which?
Check
out this map: J.Baum
of Hempfield Township. There is one J.Baum just to the southwest
of Greensburg. This was a Jacob Baum. Which Jacob was he?
I'm
still trying to put all of these pieces together, which will take some
time. A trip to Westmoreland and Armstrong is in the future. Please
